too fat to exercise
I weigh what you do and haven't had surgery yet. I can lap swim, do an hour of water aerobics, do an hour of circuit training, walk a long way, work out on the cardio equipment, etc. I have a hard time following exercise DVDs as well, but I really don't care. I might get better at it, I might not.
I think the most important thing is to do a lot of different things when you exercise. If you do the elliptical trainer every time at the same speed and for the same amount of time, your body gets used to it. That's why most elite athletes cross-train as well as doing their primary sport.
For me, one of the benefits of joining the Y is that I can do a lot of different things and try new things as I make progress. I am deliberately trying to not do the same thing every time that I go, partly so the exercise stays effective, but also because trying new things makes me feel more confident and accomplished.
I do agree with a previous poster who said that interval training in ANYTHING is the most effective way to exercise.
I do understand where you're coming from, though. I really want to start taking yoga classes, but my stomach is too big for me to feel comfortable and breathe in a lot of the positions. That's one of my goals down the road.
Keep trying!

Are you keeping track of your calorie intake...anything too low and your body will hold on to weight..anything too high and you won't lose weight. Talk to your nutritionist and establish a calorie goal. Usually its 10 times your goal weight. So if you want to be 130 lbs...then consume 1300 calories per day....write down everything that goes in your mouth
I know you're discouraged, but keep at it. You don't have to do exactly what's on the video- modify the parts that don't work for you by either altering the same move or doing a different move all together that works the same muscles, or simply march in place to keep your heart rate up until they move on. Hang in there!
Heather, I did my first moutain climber when I was about the same weight as you are now.
The trainers had us put our hands on a "step" used for aerobics class. Mine would slide across the floor because of the pressure I was putting on it. The trainer had to put his foot on it to keep it still.
So, instead of going all the way to the floor, find something a little bit off the floor to use.. a sturdy box, step stool, even a (non glass please) coffee table.
I couldn't get my feet off the floor at first either.. so I kept my feet on the floor and moved my knees. Sorta like marching in place? Hard to explain.
Anyhow, the point is.. if you can't do the exercise exactly as demonstrated.. find a modification. If you keep at it, you WILL be able to eventually do it like the video. I refuse to call it the "correct" way, because there are many ways to perform .. and all of them are right in their own way.
The suggestion of a personal trainer is a good one. Hang in there and do NOT give up. You can do it!!

Want some cheese to go with that whine?? I recommend a nice nutty Swiss!
Nobody said this was easy. So you can't do the entire video--so what? Do what you can.
Besides which, when was the last time you lost 90 lbs???
Stay off the scale.
Increase your caloric intake; you may need to add a couple of hundred more calories to your intake
so that your body will let go of the excess cargo you're carrying around. (When was the last time
you were told to eat more??!)
Protein first. Small amounts of complex carbs. Stay hydrated. Keep up your vitamins & supplements.
Log everything you eat so you KNOW what you're taking in.
Stay off the scale. (I can't repeat this enough) It will make you KUHRAZY with that stupid machine
telling you that you're dumb/stupid/weak/a failure, etc.,etc. etc.
If you don't like the videos, do something else. Swimming is good when it's this hot.
This doesn't happen overnight. Hang in there, Kid.
We are all rooting for you.

thank you everyone for your suggestions and support. i just have a lot of pressure to lose since my parents took out a home loan to pay for my surgery. they ask me every day what my weight is and when i get stuck like this they make me feel horrible. I try to keep my calories around 1200 a day and i do track my intake on a application on my phone. I have been struggling with getting in my water intake so i have started focusing on it more. I cant got o the Y or anything like that BC sadly i have to give up my gym membership BC i just couldn't afford it on top of protein and vitamins and trying to buy healthy foods. Ill keep trying the videos with the modification to the mountain climber. im also adding walking up and down the hill at my townhouses every hour at night just to keep me moving. maybe ill hide my scale for a few weeks so i stop focusing on it so much :)
You may need to tell your mother & father (lovingly but firmly) that their constant harping on your progress is creating a lot of stress for you. Promise to give them updates, and show them when you
get something pretty to wear, etc., so they can share your joy, because they WANT you to be successful.
I know they are like many of our families, having seen other weight loss programs come and go without a good outcome, so they're probably afraid this is going to be just the same way. Totally
understandable, but this is not a diet, it is a life.
Good luck.

Hey Heather you are doing a great job on the cardio for your workouts. Keep up the great work!!! The videos are a great way to switch up your program. Try to keep your workouts fresh and add a lot of variaty into your workouts to help maximize the weight loss. The big hole that I see in your workouts is that you are not doing any resistance training (weight lifting, push-ups, squats, etc.) Try adding 3 times a week to your workouts for about twenty min. Weight training helps to build up the lean muscle tissue which will help you burn more calories and lose more weight. Keep up the great work and you will get there
Hang in there! Don't put so much emphasis on the work out. Do what you can do. Focus on an active lifestyle. Look for hobbies that require movement that pass time quickly. I would lose for a while then stall, lose fast, then stall. Try to embrace the changes and the 90 you have lost. When I decided that I would never reach goal and decided to maintain instead, the pressure was off and it started coming off again. You can do it!
I had surgery the same day as you and I've been stuck at the same weight for the past month. I know it's frustrating! My NUT told me at my last appt to speed up my walking. Our bodies get used to doing the same thing all the time and we won't loose. So do what others have said...change up your work outs and modify the exercises in the DVDs. You can do it!
